Maya Yoshida believes that Southampton have given the temporary job to a safe pair of hands in Kelvin Davis.
The defender knows Davis very well, as they have spent a lot of time together at the club.
Davis will now take charge of the team until a permanent manager can be secured, after the sacking of Mark Hughes. He has a decade of playing experience with the Saints.
Yoshida said to the Daily Echo: "I know him very well because we played together for a long time.
"The training under Kelvin Davis has gone really well and we are motivated.
"Every time a new manager comes in, we all start from scratch and everyone has good motivation to show themselves and start again.
"He is a man who cares about the club more than anyone else. He is the right person to take charge and that's my opinion."
