WORLD CUP 2018: England captain Kane's stoppage-time winner sinks Tunisia

England got their World Cup campaign off to a flying start having secured a dramatic 2-1 victory against Tunisia, who put up a superb defensive display in the second-half but were eventually breached thanks to Harry Kane's goalscoring instincts.

The Three Lions opened the scoring in the 11th minute thanks to a goal from Kane. The Tottenham striker latched onto a loose ball from Tunisia's goalkeeper, Mouez Hassen, before launching it into the back of the net to put his side in front.

England continued to maintain possession and dominate the game, but found themselves back on level terms with Tunisia after Ferjani Sassi converted a penalty in the 35th minute following Kyle Walker's foul on Ben Youssef.

England were unlucky not to score a second goal in the 40th minute as a header from Dele Alli was cleared right before it crossed the goal line.

The second-half saw Tunisia tighten their defence thus preventing England from having accurate shots on goal. The Three Lions, though, kept huffing and puffing hoping to fashion a clear-cut goalscoring opportunity but Tunisia held firm.

Gareth Southgate opted to take Dele Alli off for Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 80thminute in a bid to inject more creativity and power into the side.

Loftus-Cheek helped carve some great opportunities, including a cut-back which no England player was able to get on the end of as the game neared its end.

A clearance from Ben Amor provided England with a corner kick in the first minute of stoppage time. Kieran Trippier swung the ball into the 18-yard-box before Harry Maguire flicked it into Kane's path for him to head past the goalkeeper, and he duly did, thus leading his side to a hard-fought victory with a superb brace.
