The former Birmingham City midfielder claimed that Gerrard is the 'best midfielder England has produced in years' in a post which highlighted his display against Germany for England back in 2001.
“Best midfielder England has produced in years. Only club rivalry doesn't allow this to be universally accepted. This lad could do absolutely everything, the complete footballer," he wrote on the social media site.
Before adding: “In 19 seasons at Manchester UnitedPaul Scholes never won the clubs player of the year award. Gabriel Heinze, Javier Hernandez and Antonio Valencia did. Steven Gerrard in the same period won every PFA award available, voted by his fellow professionals."
