Wolves' record signing Kevin Doyle has undergone a hernia operation and could miss the start of the season. Boss Mick McCarthy was trying to remain positive.

"Kevin has had an op but is recovering well and he will now get his rehab," he told the Birmingham Mail.

"Quite clearly he is going to be behind the others but he was running alright before and he will be fine.

"He is a fit guy and anyone who has seen him play will know he puts a shift in. We will soon have him back on his feet."
