Wolves failed to close a deal for Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy on transfer deadline day, it has been revealed.
The Journal says Wolves boss Mick McCarthy made a shock move to take the 26-year-old that he brought to English football on Tuesday morning but the move broke down before Murphy could start talking terms with the Black Country side.
Wolves were ready to loan out their young forward Sam Vokes to get first-team experience and wanted Murphy on a season-long deal to provide cover up front, but when the Wales striker's move to Derby broke down, they scrapped the loan deal for the nine-times-capped Republic of Ireland striker.
