Wolves enter eSports gaming team in China

Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined forces with Weibo eSports Club to launch a competitive gaming team in China, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/.

Wolves Weibo eSports will compete in FIFA Online 4, which is the most popular version of the soccer video game in China. The team will enter the FSL competition and plan to announce their full roster at an event in March.

Wolves launched their own esports team back in August 2018 and are the second Premier League side to have a competitive gaming outfit in China after Manchester City unveiled a FIFA Online team in the country in June last year.

"The esports market in China is growing at pace and we wanted to follow on from the success of our existing esports team with a dedicated China presence," said Wolves head of marketing Russell Jones.

"This collaboration is very exciting as it will see us partner with a world class esports club and one of the biggest media platforms in China."

Weibo eSports Club is managed by Shanghai Jingzong Culture Media Company and is one of the top competitive gaming clubs in China, with teams entered in titles such as FIFA, PUBG and Fortnite.

The organisation also has an exclusive partnership with Sina, which manages Chinese microblogging site Sina Weibo, which boasts over 445 million active daily users who will now be exposed to Wolves' esports content.

"This cooperation is very exciting for Weibo eSports," added Guangzhuo Shi, chief executive of Jingzong Culture Media Company. "Wolves are a very well-known and respected football club across the world.

"Partnering with Wolves, to form Wolves Weibo eSports, will help us reach an entirely new audience and provide powerful additional resources."
