Wolves boss Nuno thrilled with impressive Everton win

Wolves were impressive for their 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday.

Ruben Neves converted a first-half penalty for Wolves.

On-loan Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes levelled things up with his maiden goal for the club, a long-range drive in the 27th minute, and his first league strike anywhere since April 2017.

However, a minute before the break Joao Moutinho's free-kick was headed in by the unmarked Raul Jimenez as Marco Silva's side conceded their 16th set-piece goal of the season and Leander Dendoncker's 66th-minute volley finished things off.

Wolves boss Nuno enthused, “We achieved the goal (through Neves), then Everton had a fantastic goal. Then we had to do it again and we were lucky we achieved a second goal just before half time, and that put us on the front foot. A goal is always hard to achieve, but if you achieve it in the right moment it can be very hard for your opponent.

“We are proud of what we did today. It's a very tough stadium to come and play the way we played. In the first-half we played better, we had a lot of control in good situations and in the second half both teams were organised.

“Of course, we were in front of the score and Everton going direct requires a lot of shape, being compact and organised, and we achieved it. We didn't allow many chances to Everton.

“I know it's very difficult to play here, with the atmosphere. Everton are a very good team with a good manager, but one moment can change everything. The boys were very organised, they stayed in shape and controlled the game, and we had a lot of chances."
