Wolves boss Nuno pleased to grind out victory at Aston Villa

Wolves boss Nuno was pleased after their 1-0 win at Aston Villa on Saturday.

The visitors, surprisingly, only managed two efforts on goal but they made it count with their second when Belgium midfielder Leander Dendoncker made a foray forward before striking low past Orjan Nyland.

It is now three wins out of three following the restart and Nuno Espirito Santo's side are fifth on 52 points with Chelsea, above them on 54, in their sights.

As for Dean Smith's men, they remain in 19th with 27 points. A draw could have lifted them out of the bottom three, which was as much as they looked like achieving at Villa Park.

Jack Grealish's first-half low driven effort was their only shot on target.

Nuno said, "I think we performed well in terms of our organisation and in terms of staying in the game. We approached the game really well. we didn't settle down early on but once we had a couple of opportunities we started to control the game and create more chances.

"Honestly everyone knows in football you can plan but anything can change. We had an idea, today was about controlling the game, about getting tough and opening them to get possession in the wide areas.

"I am very happy for Leander, he is a hard worker. It is time now to recover and prepare because next week we have three games in one week and it will be tough."
