Dennis Wise is facing the axe at Newcastle United.

The Daily Mail says Wise's days as executive director of football at Newcastle could be numbered as owner Mike Ashley continues building for the future.

Reports suggest former Millwall and Leeds boss Wise is set for the axe as Ashley looks to bring in either Alan Shearer or Steve Bruce as manager in the summer.

Neither of them would consider taking over with Wise in situ and feel his £1.2m a year salary would be better spent elsewhere.
