Wilder happy with Sheffield Utd momentum after beating Bristol City for FA Cup berth

Billy Sharp has put Sheffield United into the FA Cup quarter-finals after his goal defeated Bristol City on Wednesday.

The Blades almost went ahead in the first-half but Max Lowe's effort cannoned off the bar.

But Chris Wilder's side had their goal when David McGoldrick won a penalty with 66 minutes on the clock.

McGoldrick's goal-bound shot was handled by Alfie Mawson, with the English defender sent off by referee Robert Jones after consulting the video screen.

Sharp stepped up to fire home the spot-kick and send his side into the final eight.

Speaking after the game, Wilder said: "It was an awkward tie for us in the position we're in and the opposition had nothing to lose. We were a bit sloppy in the last five-ten minutes with a few misplaced passes and at that stage we should've been out of sight. But we're through we're into the next round, into the quarter-final again and hopefully we can use this momentum as we have done previously to see if we can pick some points up in the Premier League.

"A win's a win. We haven't had enough of them this season that's what the message was to the players. We were good in the first half, but we missed some good opportunities. We opened them up numerous times but they were stubborn opposition. The manner if our goal will be debated and it might look like a tight game but we always looked comfortable and like were going to go through to the next round."
