Georginio Wijnaldum wants to make a lasting impression at Newcastle United.
Following his stunning season in leading PSV Eindhoven to the Dutch title last term, Wijnaldum joined Newcastle in the summer and the midfielder's destination certainly surprised quite a few people as Manchester United were said to be interested in the Dutch international.
Wijnaldum has now gone on to explain the reason behind his decision to join the Magpies and has stated that he wants to achieve something 'special' at St. James' Park.
"(United is a) great club. (And) Newcastle United are bigger than many people in the Netherlands think. Only it's not really gone well in recent years," Wijnaldum told the Chronicle.
"They had one season run in which they finished in fifth place (in 2011-12) and even played in Europe, but the (poor) years followed, and Newcastle United have often played (near) the relegation zone.
"Yet we are ahead (of schedule), and you notice that with the purchases made in the summer.
"Everybody (at Newcastle) wants to build within the club to something beautiful."
