Newcastle United star performer Georginio Wijnaldum has been left very impressed with Jonjo Shelvey's debut for the Magpies.

Shelvey, who signed for Newcastle from Swansea City in a £12million move last week, played key roles in both Magpies goals in Saturday's 2-1 win over West Ham United.

"He brings football," said Wijnaldum.

"You know he sees everything. You don't even have to look behind you, and he will find you. He brings confidence to me and all the players.

"For our first goal, opponents were all around but he still found me between the lines and I just popped the ball for Ayoze (Perez) to shoot.

"And his pass for the second was magnificent. That is something that we need, and we can use a player like him."
