Wigan midfielder Watson keen on West Brom stay

Wigan Athletic midfielder Ben Watson wants to sign permanently with West Brom.

Watson, who had a spell at QPR earlier this term, is enjoying his football with West Brom so much he wants to stay in the Midlands.

Watson, 24, said: "They can call me back but I hope they don't. I've had no contact with Wigan since I've been here but they got a good result at the weekend which might see them safe.

"Hopefully, I'll be here until the end of the season. I'm with a team flying at the top of the league and I want to be in that promotion push."

Midfielder Watson's opener, his first for the Baggies since arriving last month, helped keep the pressure on leaders Newcastle and maintain the gap with third-placed Forest.

He said: "We probably have the best squad in the Championship and have been in the top two or three all season.

"The Premier League is another step up but I don't see why this team can't cut it there.

"And if West Brom get promoted it would be nice to stay on here."
