As Celtic boss Tony Mowbray continues his search for a striker, Wigan are hoping they will be able to swoop for Hoops hitman Scott McDonald, reports the Evening Times. The Latics launched a late offer to take the Australian south as the summer transfer window was set to close.
But this was rejected as newly-arrived boss Mowbray was still assessing all of his players.
Wigan are prepared to offer £4million for the 26 year old who cost Celtic just £600,000 when they signed him from Motherwell two years ago.
But Roberto Martinez initially wants to take McDonald on loan until the summer before paying in full.
The Australian international has again shot to the top of the goal-scoring list, bagging another two at the weekend to take his tally this term to 12.
