Wigan Athletic fullback Antonee Robinson's heart operation is on hold due to the medical crisis.
The Sun reports the delays are putting a major move in doubt.
Former Everton defender Robinson was due for surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat that was discovered when he was due to join AC Milan in January.
The Milton Keynes-born USA international, 22, had his hospital date delayed twice and may have a lengthy wait for clearance.
Both he and Wigan had hoped for a rehab period of around six to eight weeks and were optimistic he could play again if this season is extended.
But now all plans are in limbo and Robinson, who has not played since late January, will not feature again until the op is carried out and he has made a full recovery.
Milan are still keen but need him back to full fitness first.
