Wigan Athletic have slapped a £15 million price-tag on midfielder James McCarthy.
The Mirror says Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy sees McCarthy as a long-term successor to Scott Parker at the White Hart Lane club, but will be reluctant to over-pay for him and faces having to haggle with Whelan over a fee.
Wigan are in no rush to sell and know there is other live interest in McCarthy, who joined them from Hamilton Academical for £1.1m four years ago.
