Wigan Athletic are chasing Newcastle United youngster Dan Barlaser.

The Evening Chronicle says Barlaser is being lined up for a loan deal with Latics boss Paul Cook a fan of the midfielder's style of play.

Wigan have kept a close eye on Barlaser during his successful loan stint with Accrington Stanley this season.

Barlaser was eager to get first-team experience after a short stint at Crewe last term.

But this season he has made 48 first-team appearances and grabbed three goals and two assists from midfield.
