Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez was very relieved after his side put their disastrous Premier League beginning behind them on Tuesday night.
The Latics responded well from their two heavy league defeats to advance to the third round of the Carling Cup with a 3-0 over Hartlepool United in front of less than 4,000 fans at Victoria Park, delighting the Spaniard.
"I am very pleased with many aspects. We showed energy and performance and we are starting to do things we were working on in the summer," he said.
"In the Premier League we've been doing good things but at the wrong time. Today we did it at the right time and we are slowly gelling together."
