Wigan Athletic boss Steve Bruce says French trialist Joel Thomas is doing all the right things in training.

"He's a boy trying to earn a contract with us," said Bruce. "He's been training with us for four or five days and we're impressed with what we've seen.

"Last night he was a bit over-zealous on the pitch, but his enthusiasm was terrific and it's better that way than the other."

Thomas, 21, has previously played for Bordeaux in France and German side Kaiserslautern, and has been on trial with a couple of Scottish clubs this summer.
