Chicago Fire are reportedly on the verge of securing a deal for Shaun Maloney.
It is believed that the 31-year old Wigan Athletic winger is set to agree a deal with the MLS club after recently seeing a move to Premier League side Leicester City go awry.
Reports suggest that Scotland international Maloney may move from England this month for a fee or that the Fire may even wait until July and get him on a free transfer.
Of the potential deal, Fire head coach Frank Yallop said on the weekend that former Celtic and Aston Villa attacking midfielder Maloney was keen to make the move to Chicago.
"In talks with Shaun, he wants to come to us," Yallop said.
"It's just obviously Wigan have the player and they own him until July. We're just trying to work something out.
"I feel we'll get something done, whether it's yes or no, in the next two or three days, so that's what we're trying to do."
