Leicester City signing Ben Hamer is already defying manager Nigel Pearson!
The former Charlton Athletic goalkeeper signed for the Foxes last week and recalled Pearson's greeting.
Hamer told the Leicester Mercury: "The first thing he said to me was, 'When are you going to get rid of that beard?'
"It started off as a bet with one of the other keepers at Charlton and his missus got the hump with him. He shaved it off but I stuck with it. I like it.
"Not many people do because there is a small niche in the market for people who like beards. I will stick with it for the time being.
"My mum is not a big fan of it and she has been on at me for a while now, but it is in my character to stay strong so we will see how long it lasts for.
"To be involved in the Premier League has always been a dream of mine. It has been a long old road and to finally get the chance with a Premier League club was a big factor for me.
"I spoke to my parents about staying at Charlton but I had three great years there and perhaps it was time for a change. I want to challenge myself in my career and this is a great opportunity for me.
"I had a chat with the boss and he wants me to come in and improve, show what I can do and, if I am called on at any stage, then I have to show my capabilities. I have the platform to improve here."
