Who's the youth? Five U20s Spurs fans must watch

While football has temporarily been taken away from us, take some time to familiarise yourself with your club's brightest stars, who might start making a name for themselves when games resume...

Maxi Tainio

Son of former Spurs midfielder Teemu Tainio, Maxi Tainio is one of the most exciting young prospects within Tottenham's youth ranks.

Tainio is naturally a right-back, but he boasts elite-level tactical awareness which allows him to perform in a variety of roles in defence as well as the middle of the park.

Back in 2018, Tainio picked up the 'defender of the tournament' award in the U17 Borgaro Maggioni Righi competition in Italy - a testament of his defensive ability at a very young age.

The 18-year-old is yet to secure a first-team debut at Spurs, but considering the club's youth policy, he's sure to be handed a senior appearance in the near future.

Dilan Markanday

Markanday is one of the most important players in Tottenham's U18 squad.

The young Englishman has garnered a reputation in the English youth football scene for his ability to get himself into goalscoring positions along with his ability to create clear-cut opportunities for his teammates.

Markanday was a key member of the U18 Spurs side that finished as runners-up in the U18 Premier League squad during the 2018/19 campaign.

He was so crucial to the team's success that he featured in 21 out of the 22 games that were played, racking up the most league appearances within Spurs' youth ranks and scoring 11 goals in the process.

Markanday is a hard man to catchonce he gets on his bike, he's also a bit of a trickster with the ball at his feet, making him a nightmare to play against for any defender.

If he continues to put up impressive performances within Spurs' youth ranks it won't be long before he makes his senior debut.

Oliver Skipp

Skipp caught former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino's attention playing in Tottenham's academy set-up.

He has since broken into the club's first-team, earning himself 12 Premier League appearances, the first of which came in a 3-1 victory over Southampton back in December 2018.

Skipp is primarily deployed as a holding midfielder but he can take up a box-to-box role if need be.

He's a calm and composed player, a trait which has led to his easy transition into Tottenham's first-team set-up.

Malachi Fagan-Walcott

Standing at 6'0, Malachi Fagan-Walcott isn't a particularly intimidating defender, but what he lacks in sheer physical dominance he makes up for with pure defensive ability.

He's able to make clean tackles and cut passing lanes, preventing his opponents from finding spaces to exploit around his side's 18-yard-area.

At the age of 18, he's already featured for Spurs' first-team, and not just in any ordinary game, he made his senior debut in Tottenham's Champions League round of 16 tie against RB Leipzig.

Despite losing the game, Fagan-Walcott showed a lot of promise and is sure to feature for Tottenham's first-team again in the near future.

Dennis Cirkin

Cirkin is one of the most highly-rated defenders within Tottenham's youth ranks.

He is yet to make his first-team debut, but he's slowly being integrated in Tottenham's first-team set-up as evidenced by the fact that he was on the bench for Tottenham's FA Cup replay against Middlesbrough back in January - a sign of Jose Mourinho's interest in his abilities.

The 18-year-old is a gifted left-back with an incredible work rate. He's known for making overlapping runs down the left flank and contributing to his team's attacking build-up play.

He has much to learn but under a manager of Jose Mourinho's caliber he's almost sure to develop into a quality player for Spurs.
