Stoke midfielder Glenn Whelan was upset for Asmir Begovic after last night's Carling Cup win over Fulham.

Whelan was disappointed with Fulham's failure to test goalkeeper Begovic on his first appearance of the season following his controversial omission in the second round tie against Shrewsbury.

"It's disappointing for Asmir because he wanted a shot to impress the manager, but he never had the chance," said Whelan.
