Westwood: Villa players will battle on in relegation scrap

Midfielder Ashley Westwood says Aston Villa will fight hard to preserve their Premier League status. Paul Lambert's team are only four points from the drop zone suggesting another survival scrap could be on the cards.

The 23-year-old told the club's official website: "You can't dwell on this.

"A lot of people had their say, but that's football and we'll come out fighting next week.

"It is disappointing at the time but there are always games to eradicate the previous mistakes.

"We looked comfortable (against Newcastle) and we had chances to win it. We've said a lot of times if you can't win the game don't lose it, but unfortunately we conceded in the 90th minute.

"We've had a chat in there and it is something we need to work on - seeing games out better.

"We're a good team and on our day we'll match anyone.

"We've shown that before and we won't get too disheartened by that. It's time to go again next week (against Norwich City) now."
