Western Sydney confirm signing of ex-Japan star Ono

Western Sydney Wanderers have confirmed the capture of Japanese veteran Shinji Ono.

The 33-year old midfielder has signed with the A-League's newest franchise after being granted permission to leave J-League club Shimizu S-Pulse.

During his career, Ono has played with Japanese club Urawa Reds, Dutch outfit Feyenoord, German side VfL Bochum, Shimizu and has represented the Japan national team on 56 occasions including the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups.

The signing of Ono is another massive coup for Australian football with Wanderers head coach Tony Popovic delighted with the addition to his new squad.

"We have been in talks with Shinji and his management for a long time now, we have gone through the process and believe he will add a large amount to our squad across all areas," Popovic said.

"He is an experienced player at all levels and has played on some of the biggest stages in the world, his professionalism at the top level will be good for all to see."
