Newcastle United are set to shelve their interest for Stewart Downing.
The Chronicle reports that the Magpies will elect against a pursuit of the West Ham United winger who continues to be linked with an Upton Park departure.
Newcastle have been linked with Downing in recent weeks but new manager Steve McClaren and managing director Lee Charnley are not looking to bring in a 30-year old.
Sunderland, Stoke City and Middlesbrough all remain keen on Downing who could be offloaded by incoming Hammers boss Slaven Bilic.
