West Ham move into fifth win after controversial win over Aston Villa

West Ham United have moved into fifth on the Premier League table after a controversial 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Villa striker Ollie Watkins was denied a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser after an agonising VAR wait ruled his upper arm was offside.

The former Brentford man also missed a penalty after Trezeguet had his shirt pulled in the box by Declan Rice.

David Moyes' side were ahead before two minutes thanks to Angelo Ogbonna's powerful header.

But Jack Grealish managed to equalise for the visitors with a fine effort past Lukasz Fabianski from distance.

Moyes brought on Said Benrahma at half-time and the move quickly paid dividends when the Algerian set-up Jarrod Bowen a minute after the break.

Villa had their opportunities to equalise but West Ham held on to move above teams such as Manchester City and Manchester United into fifth place.
