West Ham move closer to Europa League last-16 with Genk draw

West Ham United are on the verge of reaching the Europa League knockout stage after Thursday's 2-2 draw with Genk.

Joseph Paintsil opened the scoring for Genk after just four minutes.

Paul Onuachu forced an excellent save from Alphonse Areola to prevent Genk from doubling their lead shortly after the opener.

After struggling in the opening 20 minutes, West Ham worked themselves into the game and eventually equalised through Said Benrahma.

Some nifty work down the right wing resulted in a cross from Vladimir Coufal, which allowed to Benrahma to finish with consummate ease.

West Ham's second goal was a piece of magic from the Algerian winger.

Signed from Brentford in January this year, Benrahma showed his capabilities with an excellent solo run and finish.

The Hammers thought they had wrapped up all three points before a bizarre attempted clearance from Tomas Soucek sailed over the head of Areola and into the net.
