West Ham locked in talks for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd

West Ham are locked in talks for Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd.

The London Evening Standard says talks have been progressing between the clubs and though no final agreement has yet been reached, it is expected that the Moroccan international will head to the London Stadium in a deal worth around €15million (£13m).

David Moyes has made signing a left-sided centre-back a priority this summer as he looks to bring balance to his defence and the 26-year-old fits the bill.

The Hammers were one of several clubs tracking Aguerd last summer before he opted to continue his development under Bruno Genesio at Rennes.

There had been some surprise in France when Aguerd made the switch from struggling Dijon to Rennes - who had just qualified for the Champions League for the first time - in the summer of 2020, but he has excelled in two seasons with the club, earning a reputation as one of Ligue 1's most reliable defenders.
