West Ham United hope to secure striker David di Michele to a contract this week.
The Daily Mail says the Hammers are the eighth club of his career, just as they were for Di Canio, who settled at the East End club for more than four years and restored an image tarnished by his shove on referee Paul Alcock during his Sheffield Wednesday days.
Di Michele, 32, is a free agent who joined West Ham just after the transfer deadline following his release from Torino.
He has yet to sign the one-year contract on offer but expects to do so before Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at Watford.
