West Ham edge Hamburg in pre-season friendly

West Ham United have defeated German club Hamburg 3-1 in a pre-season friendly in Flensburg.

The Hammers, who lost 4-1 to Mainz in their last outing, netted all three of their goals in the first half as they overpowered Hamburg early.

Winger Matt Jarvis was the catalyst with two sublime crosses for Alou Diarra and James Tomkins to head home ahead of the half-hour mark before Heiko Westermann pulled one back for Hamburg in the 43rd minute.

However, Jarvis was brought down in the area allowing Ravel Morrison to convert from the penalty spot not long after to give West Ham a two-goal cushion at the break and eventual victory.
