West Ham defender Michael Dawson says they paid for a slow start in defeat to Tottenham.

Dawson felt they ran out of time to find a way back in the 3-1 reverse.

“We didn't start the game well and we gave them two goals really, so that was disappointing," Dawson told West Ham TV.

“We were disappointed to concede two goals early on in the match, but we showed character to get the goal back and have a lot of possession.

“I think we grew into the game. We obviously got the goal back and had a lot of possession after that, we just didn't find that final ball or that little bit of quality in the box – but the lads worked hard.

“Being 2-0 down took away from the plan we had before the game, but it was good to get the goal back, and after that we had a lot of possession – we just didn't quite take that chance."
