West Ham United are on the verge of signing Maxi Lopez.

The Celta Vigo attacker is close to being the next Hammers signing, even though he will not play for the club until next season.

Sky Sports reports that Celta were asking for the player's £43.3m release clause to be paid if West Ham wanted him now.

A compromise will see the club pay a lower fee, but he will stay in Spain for the rest of this season.

Gomez managed 19 La Liga goals last term, while he has scored nine this season.

The 22-year-old is a long term West Ham target.
