Aaron Cresswell will be sidelined for the first part of West Ham United's 2016/17 Premier League season.
The star left-back suffered a knee ligament injury in Saturday's pre-season friendly against German club Karlsruher SC and according to the East London club's medical chief Stijn Vandenbroucke, will be sidelined for a significant amount of time after undergoing a scan on the affected area.
It is understood that Cresswell will consult a specialist in London early next week before making a decision on whether or not he will have surgery.
“Whatever course of action we decide to take, Aaron faces a period of rest, followed by treatment and rehabilitation and he will be out for a period of between three and four months," Vandenbroucke told the club's official website.
Additionally, co-chairman David Sullivan's son Jack Tweeted that the 26-year-old will be missing a large portion of the remainder of 2016.
I can confirm Cresswell is out 3-4 months.
