West Ham are prepared to bring David Moyes back to the club if Manuel Pellegrini can't turn results around.
Pellegrini is believed to have saved his job with Saturday's 1-0 victory at Southampton.
However, the club are still considering bringing in a new man on a short-term contract until the end of the season.
The Independent are reporting that the Hammers were prepared to make a formal approach for Moyes had Pellegrini's team suffered defeat at St Mary's.
The club's chiefs do hope Pellegrini can turn things around but there will need to be a dramatic improvement with the team currently just four points above the relegation zone.
