West Ham captain Nolan happy hard work paying off

West Ham United captain Kevin Nolan was delighted with his goal in victory over Southampton.

His latest goal was an acrobatic hook from close range which sealed Saturday's victory.

And the 31-year-old said: "When I spoke to Sam (Allardyce) after the New Year's Day incident, the second red card, it was really cards-on-the-table stuff. Everything got said there and then and it was put to bed quite quickly.

"He got a lot of stick because of it for sticking with me, there was a lot of criticism.

"I knew what I had to do, which was work hard and knuckle down and when I got my chance I had to repay the boys and the people who stuck by me.

"I had all my family who were absolutely terrific and I worked really hard with Lee Richardson, the psychologist here.

"Everyone knows Sam builds a great backroom staff here and they have been great with me."
