West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is demanding the appointment of Mario Husillos as their new sports chief.
Pellegrini agreed a three-year deal to take charge at London Stadium this week, but there are already concerns high up over his desire to bring long-time ally Husillos to the club.
Husillos is currently in charge at Malaga, but offered his resignation last week.
The 59-year-old worked with the new Hammers boss during his three-year stint at Malaga, and is a childhood friend of Pellegrini's trusted assistant Ruben Cousillas.
But there are doubts among the Hammers top brass about the transfer fixer's recent record, and how it would look to the fans ahead of an important season.
