West Ham boss David Moyes is eager to add to his squad this month.
Moyes has been linked with Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley, having worked with him at Everton.
He said: “The one thing I will never do is talk about players at other clubs, not to upset other managers and it's wrong to do so."
But he added: “Anything we think will improve our side we will be interested to try and bring in."
Moyes' first preference is for younger, more dynamic players at West Ham. The Scot wants to move away from the older cast-offs from rival clubs and believes the east London club have the ability to source their own rising stars or attract top talent.
He added: “I would like to find a way of bringing a level of player in that we can rely on, consistently.
“But I've also got a mind set of bring in young players.Obviously young players take time to settle. We are in a league position where we've got to be careful bringing in too many young players.
“So that might not be the ideal scenario right now, but my long-term picture would be sign young players for the future, for the longevity here, for resale as well, that's part of the business in football."
