West Ham United are set to sign El Ahly midfielder Ahmed Fathy.
The Daily Mail says talks should continue today with a work permit needed but Fathy has over 70 caps for Egypt and at just 25 is set to earn many more, fitness permitting.
He became Egypt's youngest ever player when he was selected as a 17-year-old in 2001 and if anyone was shaped to impress in Europe it seemed he was the one.
However, his £750,000 move to Sheffield United failed to live up to expectation.
He played against Tottenham and Liverpool but after six games in total that was it and reluctantly he went back to Egypt.
He is now hopeful of better times with West Ham where he can solve Avram Grant's problem right-back position and cover in midfield.
