Former West Bromwich Albion defender Darren Moore has backed their training camp in Spain.
New Baggies boss Pepe Mel has taken the squad to Jerez.
"I think it's a good idea, more so for Pepe Mel than the players because, firstly, he needs to know his players on a more personal basis, which he hasn't properly had a chance," Moore told the Birmingham Mail.
"Secondly, he probably felt a little bit alone - he's in a new environment, with new people, a different language, different weather, different food, etc. This will be on his patch, completely on his terms.
"Also, he will get to see his players' workrates. He's had an intense period of games where you can't always get a chance to work with players. But he will also get that rest and recovery time with the players - which will give him an insight into the type of people he has at the club, who the big personalities are, who the quieter lads are, what they're like as characters.
"And it also gets the players away from the pressures and microscope of the Premier League."
