West Brom chief Garlick admits gamble not selling Berahino

West Brom chief Richard Garlick admits they've gambled not selling Saido Berahino in the summer.

For the second successive summer Berahino's future was the subject of intense speculation but despite interest from a number of clubs, including Stoke, the 23-year-old remained at the Hawthorns.

With Berahino's contract due to expire next June, the Baggies now face the risk of losing him for significantly less than the £20million-plus fees previously offered by Spurs and other suitors, says the Express & Star.

There is even a danger the striker could depart for nothing, should he choose to move overseas when his deal runs out.

Speaking at a meeting of fans' consultation group, the Albion Assembly, Garlick admitted the club had taken a risk and added: “Only time will tell if it's right."
