The Mirror says Eagles boss Alan Pardew wants his former Newcastle star after failing to agree a deal for Blackburn's £5million-rated forward Rudy Gestede.
Ameobi, 33, is a free agent after leaving Turkish side Gaziantep - with the Baggies also very keen.
