West Brom boss Tony Mowbray was pleased with the commitment of new signings Youssouf Mulumbu and Juan Carlos Menseguez during last week's training camp in Spain.
"They have both showed up well in training," he told the WBA website. "Menseguez seems to be a player who thrives in space.
"His first week here was snowbound. We had a quarter of a pitch under covers so it was quite tight and a bit physical for him, because he is quite diminutive.
"And yet, in the open spaces on grass, he can skip past people with good tricks and has the ability to deliver crosses. I am pretty sure he will play an important part for us. Mulumbu has earned the name 'Makelele' in France and his strength is winning the ball back.
"He is what we have been looking for. He has got a lovely personality, great humility about the way he plays and knows his strengths. The players enjoy having him in their teams when they play little games because he is ultra-competitive.
"He will have a part to play as the season unfolds."
