West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine hopes to win the race for free agent Georgios Samaras.
The 29-year-old is set to hold talks with the Baggies in the next 24 hours as he looks for a new club following his summer release by Celtic.
Sampdoria, Sevilla, Malaga and Hamburg are also keen, however the former Manchester City man is believed to be keen on a return to the Premier League, says the Daily Express.
"I'm hoping for good news," said Baggies manager Alan Irvine, whose side travel to Southampton on Saturday. "He looks like the kind of player who could help us.
"We've enquired about him. Nothing's done at the moment though. We've got some lists that have been extremely long at times.
"At this moment, he is among a group of other players we are making enquiries about."
