West Brom boss Irvine defends Dawson over Palace claims

West Bromwich Albion defender Craig Dawson has dismissed criticism of an apparent elbow on Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni last weekend.

Speroni accused Dawson of deliberately trying to hurt him during last month's 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns and Palace boss Neil Warnock described the incident as "assault".

"He [Dawson] has been fine," Baggies boss Alan Irvine told the Express and Star.

"I really do not think it is something that is playing on his mind. He knows that he did not mean to do it and I do not need to take him aside and say, 'You need to be careful about this'.

"I do not need to ask him how he is feeling because he knows he was not guilty of anything other than an accident.

"I was hoping it would have all gone away by now but unfortunately [the situation] keeps coming up."
