West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson fancies returning to Fulham to strengthen his backroom staff.
The Sunday Mirror says if Appleton leaves the Baggies this week manager Hodgson is set to turn to Fulham's Ray Lewington as his new coach.
Appleton is wanted by Portsmouth as new manager.
