West Brom boss Sam Allardyce is sorry learning that Sheffield United and Chris Wilder will part ways today.
Wilder is expected to negotiate his exit before the end of the day.
Allardyce said, "I have known Chris many years. He played for me at Notts County. If you look across whole of leagues in this country, you will not see a better record than Chris Wilder.
"To get his boyhood club promoted to the Premier League... he has had one bad season in 19 years. Great shame. There was a bond between him and club. It appears there were some internal troubles rather than getting the opportunity to bring them back in the top flight. But I am sure he will come bouncing back after a break.
"The important thing for Chris is to leave with great pride and satisfaction. It is a dark moment for him but when he reflects on that he will be a better manager for it. If he sees the same things happening at another club he can try to nip them in the bid as soon as possible."
