West Brom and Real Madrid legend Cunningham to feature in film

More than £1.6m has been raised to make a film about the former West Bromwich Albion and Real Madrid winger Laurie Cunningham. Producers of the film issued a crowd-funding appeal to raise £1.4 million and investors have helped them surpass that figure, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Cunningham became the first British player to join Real when he signed from the Baggies in 1979 and was a member of the famous Baggies' Three Degrees alongside team-mates Brendon Batson and Cyrille Regis.

Producers say the film, called Black Flash, will be "about a tragic hero who was adored but misunderstood".

Sadly, Cunningham was killed in a car crash in the Spanish capital in 1989.
