Wesolowski, Bouzanis, Cisak out of FA Cup as Oldham bow to Everton

A trio of Australians have been dumped out of the FA Cup at the fifth round at the hands of Everton.

Oldham Athletic were defeated 3-1 by the Toffees at Goodison Park meaning that goalkeepers Dean Bouzanis and Alex Cisak and midfielder James Wesolowski were eliminated from the prestigious cup competition.

Kevin Mirallas opened the scoring in the 15th minute, giving ex-Liverpool youth Bouzanis no chance when he side-footed Darron Gibson's cross home before Leighton Baines edged past the Aussie gloveman from the penalty spot in the 34th minute.

Bouzanis was able to make a couple of vital saves to keep his side in the contest but Leon Osman trebled the home sides advantage just after the hour-mark with a glancing header that deceived the Latics custodian.

Matt Smith pulled one back for the League One outfit minutes later but it was not enough as the Toffees marched into the quarter-finals where they will host Wigan Athletic on March 9.

Along from Bouzanis' full shift in goal, Cisak spent the game on the bench whilst Wesolowski, who was under an injury cloud prior to the match, replaced Connor Brown in the 75th minute.
