Werner keen to hear from Chelsea, Man Utd if Liverpool drop bid

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner is prepared to move to a Premier League rival should Liverpool go cold on his transfer.

The Guardian claim Liverpool have asked Werner's agent for more time to consider activating the 23-year-old's £52m release clause.

And Werner would be open to joining another Premier League side if Liverpool do not follow up their interest.

Manchester United have looked at Werner and have placed him on their shortlist - although he is not deemed a priority target.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has also been keeping tabs on the striker as he is expected to offload Michy Batshuayi in the summer.

For both giants, the player's £52m buyout clause is a key factor in their interest.

Werner said earlier this season: “Manchester United and Liverpool were the teams I watched quite a lot in England. They were the two that I'm a little bit a fan of, because they have so much history. When Alex Ferguson was the coach, United won everything and were outstanding.

"In Liverpool it's also their stadium and the atmosphere. But when I have to decide, I'm more Manchester United than Liverpool.

“I'm now at a point where at some stage in the future I'd like to play in a team that wins titles."
